Information for parents
R U Different is an exciting project involving students in secondary schools throughout the UK.
The survey is primarily about gathering information on young people's attitudes and perceptions to drugs, bullying, weapons and relationships. It is to be completed 'online' and in school time. The survey is anonymous and designed to ensure complete confidentiality.
If your child's school has agreed to contribute to the survey we hope that you will be happy for them to be involved. The Department for Schools, Children and Families are also taking a keen interest in this work.
Once the responses have been received data will be collated and used as part of the schools PSHE programme. It will be aimed at promoting positive attitudes and behaviour that the majority of young people choose, to lead happy and safe lifestyles.
It also intends to dispel the myths that everybody is engaging in some kind of risky behaviour, as often portrayed by the media. By means of a school campaign and work with external agencies, we hope to reinforce the positive behaviours and attitudes we hope to see young people engaging with.
Hopefully this provides enough information, should you wish to discuss anything further please contact your school.
